Craft Supply Yard Sale

It’s time to clean out your craft closets and drawers! Dust off those punches, stamps, hole punches, die cut machines, scissors and even paper and stickers that you just had to have but you simply don’t use any longer or never used at all.

For only $15 each you can rent a 6’ Space to sell your items. 6’ x 3’ Tables may be rented for an additional $3.00. Don’t think you have enough stuff for an entire space? Go in on one space with a friend.

Spaces must be reserved and paid for by September 28th. No refunds for cancellations. Please fill out the Application (Click Here for an Application) and mail along with payment to RRPC.

If you are new to scrapbooking or card making, this will be an excellent opportunity for you to get great bargains on tools and supplies.

All proceeds of this fundraiser will assist RRPC Youth to fund their mission trip this summer.

The Archiver's Field Trip is tomorrow! We hope that you are all still planning to join us on the adventure!

The plan is to meet at Scrapbooks and Etc at 8:15am. We will hit the road at 8:30. The drive will be approximately 2.5 to 3 hours there. Once we get there, we will grab some lunch prior to shopping so we can shop without those nagging hunger pangs!

Thursday's Field Trip to Archivers!

Hello All!

*****Please note that I had to change the email address to ScrapBooksAndEtcNC@windstream.net. Windstream wanted to charge me $3.00 per month to keep a “business” email address on my home account so I went in on my home account and grabbed the same email address only adding the NC to it for free. Please make sure you make this change.*****

The Archiver's Field Trip is in a few days! We hope that you are all still planning to join us on the adventure!

Archiver's is located in Raleigh. We are meeting at Scrapbooks & Etc. at 8:15 (departing at 8:30). If you would prefer to use your own transportation but want to join us in the caravan, that will work too!

A huge "Thank You" to every single customer over the last 4-1/2 years. It's been fun making friends with so many of you. There's been a lot of laughs as well as some tears and all of these moments have been cherished.

Please join us for a new kind of class....we will be making Christmas tags for your packages, altering flameless tea lights, and making a sachet bag from a homemade envelope. You will have an envelope template with which to create your sachet bag. The sachet bag will include the "recipe" for making the scented sachet. For the sachet bag, you can choose between a Christmas theme with a pine fragrance or a Spring theme with a floral fragrance. I hope you can join us...we will have a lot of fun and will create some fun projects.

Operation Write Home Day

Join us in making blank greeting cards that can be used by our service men and women to send notes home to their loved ones. Go to OperationWriteHome.org and see where all the cards are sent. Making cards is a great way to use up all those scraps. Not sure how to make cards? Just bring in some of your scraps, adhesive, trimmer and scissors and we will have some easy cards you can copy.

After much deliberation and prayer, I’ve decided to close Scrapbooks & Etc. This decision has is not an easy one but the downturn in the economy has deeply affected us. We can no longer stock the latest and greatest items you are longing for.

I want to thank all our customers/friends and scrap buddies for the last 4 1/2 years of pure fun! I’ve laughed and cried with many of you and I will truly miss your visits.

I currently have no specific timeline for a closing date, but I anticipate being closed by the first of the year. It depends in part on how fast the inventory sells. If you know of anyone that could keep the store in Harrisburg, please get in touch with them or let me know and I will contact them. Otherwise we will be selling the entire inventory and fixtures.

Thank you, again, for giving me the pleasure of being your local scrapbook store for the last 4 ½ years.

Where do I begin?

First, I want to Thank Wendy and Amy for keeping an eye on the store Wednesday and Thursday and allowing me to chaperon 2 back to back field trips for my wonderful daughter Sarah!

Friday for lunch we had wonderful pulled pork sandwiches thanks to Wendy!

Friday night crop we enjoyed my favorite, a taco bar. Thank you everyone that contributed!

The snacks today (National Scrapbook Day) were great and so many contributed. I want to thank Pam for the wonderful cookies and TO-DIE-FOR Florida Orange Cake. Wendy brought her requested sausage dip and Chicken Salad Cups and they were out of this world! I also want to thank Linda Ranatza for the delicious pasta salad, Caro Hopkins for the veggie & fruit tray, Dixie Cochran for the savory cheese dip and Amy for tea and dipping chips.

Sarah Bird did an excellent job today on our make-n-take cards and Dixie showed us all how to make perfect bows in 7 different sizes using the Bow Easy.

A BIG THANKS goes out to those who came out on such a beautiful day to support us!

It’s time to start preparing your supplies to bring to class so I thought it would be convenient to post the list again. Here’s what you will need to bring with you:
• 2 paint brushes (about ½ to 1”)
• glass jar or mug for water
• heat gun
• small soft cloth or small piece of t-shirt (for a technique not to wear)
• favorite liquid adhesive (i.e.: Zip dry, tacky glue, tombo, etc)
• glue stick
• White acrylic paint
• favorite pieces of ephemera, old book pages, trims, papers or embellishments
(NO MORE THAN WHAT CAN FIT IN A SANDWICH BAGGIE. Yep a sandwich baggie! You can do it, I know you can!)
• Favorite colors of acrylic paint
• Non-Stick Craft Sheet (optional)

Wow! I can’t believe this year is over! I want to say Thank You to everyone who took this class – whether you took one class or all 12 – Thank You! I truly hope you learned something new and had fun. In this last class, you will create a Christmas Holiday layout using an overlay, paint and stencil. For pictures, you will need one 5x7 (optional), 2 4x6’s and 3 large wallet size (3x4). You will also need your stapler, again! For the second part, we will create a title page and back page for your album. The title page will not have pictures but the back page will incorporate all those great photos that just didn’t make it in to your album. You can bring these to class or add them later. Please see below for a complete list of additional supplies you will need in class.

Robert Palmer said it best, but beyond the dancing girls in the background and the 1980’s reference, this class is all about RESIST techniques! You will learn and design a sampler style visual handbook as you create and experiment with 10 distinctly different resist techniques, using paints, wax, inks, glues, matte medium, crackles and UTEE. Learn how and when to use the products you already have in your scrap supplies at home to create additional layers of dimension and texture to your scrapbooking, cardmaking, and artistic style. Using your newly created sampler handbook as your guide, the class culminates with the creation of a one of a kind and unique art piece that you create applying the techniques learned in the workshop.

UPDATED: Since we didn't get to complete the layouts in class, here are the measurements for the strips of pattern paper used in the Autumn layout: yellow-trim at 8in so you have an 8in piece and a 4in piece; brown with spots (orange on the back side) trim at 6in, then trim 1 of the 6in pieces at 3in; the multi colored strip trim at 6in.

These are cards that will be sent to our heroes overseas so they can send them to their friends and family back home. You can join us twice a month to create cards or create them at home and drop them by the store anytime. If you don't make cards, we accept donations. It costs $10 to ship a box of cards to the shippers here in the U.S. Then they have to ship the cards overseas. Luckily, the solders don't have to pay postage to send the cards home!

October Techniques 101 class - featuring Color Theory!

Join me this month as we create a fun Halloween layout titled “Boo to You”. We will be using Stickles, ribbon and Creative Imagination papers. You will need 4-5 pictures of any fun Halloween event. We will also discuss some color theory techniques. Ever wonder how the layouts in the magazines seem to come together so well? How all the pictures seem to pop and the colors and embellishments work so well together? I have been doing some research for you and we will learn some of the tips and tricks to picking the right colors and embellishments. You will also learn how to use the Color Wheel and the difference between some of the different layout styles. Feel free to bring in those pictures you are having trouble deciding how to use or just bring in the next photos you are ready to crop and learn how to make them look their very best.

September Techniques class - Alcohol Inks!

Want to add a really unique look to your layouts? This month we are going to play with Tim Holtz’s Alcohol Inks! These are beautiful alcohol-based inks made for use on non-porous surfaces such as glossy paper, metal, plastic and glass. We will spend time learning some of the different ways to use the inks and creating some of the embellishments for our layout. You will need 1 4x6 black and white photo of yourself. Please be sure to wear old clothes and/or an apron. Disposable gloves will be available for use in class.

I want to THANK everyone that came out to SUPPORT our TROOPS! Our objective was to make blank cards they can use to write home to loved ones. We mailed out 272 cards! Can I hear a Woo-HOO! This cause was so well received that we will be adding 2 days per month dedicated to making cards for our Heroes. Mark your calendars! September Card Class

Hi everyone! I've just finished the sample cards for the September card classes and I think you will enjoy making these. They are made with acetate and so many variations can be used with these. We will make 4 different cards, however, I'm only showing pictures of two of them here. The other two will be embossed using the Cuttlebug and an embossing folder. I have scheduled two classes: Saturday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. and Monday, September 14 at 6:00 p.m. I hope you can make it to one of them. It is a fun idea using acetate and I know you will have a great time.

Gatefold Card Class

Hi everyone! I've been dreaming up new ideas to bring to you, however, one of the September classes will be a revival of the Gatefold card. Those of you who have taken this particular class know how versatile this card is. There are so many ways to "dress" it up! I have scheduled the class for Thursday, September 10 at 11:00 a.m. Above are the samples of the cards we will be making.

Hi all! Thought I would share some pictures of today's Shaker Card class. We had a full house and everyone enjoyed making the Shaker Cards. We had a few "leaks" with the sand-filled shaker card but we got it sealed off! This was a great class and everyone's cards turned out beautiful.

August Technique class - Stickles!!

Who remembers playing with glitter as a child? Remember how you would end up with glitter everywhere? You won’t have that problem with Stickles!! It’s a wonderful glitter glue that keeps the glitter where you want it! This month we are going to explore the uses of Stickles. It comes in too many colors to count and even in colors to match your Distress Inks! We will talk about the different kinds and I will even have some samples of several so you can see the difference. The first layout is titled “Off We Go” so bring 4-6 photos of a fun vacation. (You will get to choose between a plane, car, or truck chipboard shape). The second layout is titled “Cute”. It was originally meant to be a pet layout but can be just about anything you want it to be. Bring 4 4x6 photos of friends, family, pets, or just about any photos you have that makes you think “cute!!” One bottle of Stickles will be included in your class kit.

Please remember your basic class supplies:

Scissors

Tweezers
Wet and dry adhesive
Craft knife
Black pen

***You will also need your black and brown inks and sponges or Tim Holtz ink applicator, craft mat, pop dots (also known as 3D Dots). Paint will be available for use and a bottle of Stickles will be included in your kit.***

Have you heard of CardsForHeroes.org? Their mission: To support our nation’s armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. Join us in making blank greeting cards that can be used by our service men and women to send notes home to their loved ones. Check out the website CardsForHeroes.org and see where all the cards are sent.

Making cards is a great way to use up all those scraps. Not sure how to make cards? Just bring in some of your scraps, adhesive, trimmer and scissors and we will have some easy cards you can copy.

This is the very least we can do for those who risk their lives for us!

I have been back to the beach to The Scrapbook Addict in Shallotte and my friend, Sande, who owns the shop has taught me how to make the waterfall card. They are really neat and so easy. I have scheduled the class for Saturday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. and Monday, August 17 at 6:00 p.m. I hope you can join us...you will love this technique. Stop by Traci's and check out the samples. Hello fellow bloggers and crafters! Here is a look at the Technique class for July. We will be having fun with paint, buttons and a white gel pen. Let me know what you think!

This class is coming up this Monday!
Techniques 101 July Class by Amy Patterson***2 dates to choose from***
Monday, July 20th @ 6pm and Saturday, July 25th @ 1:30 pm
Fee: $22.00
This month we will be playing with circles, buttons, paint and a white gel pen. You can also use more pictures on these layouts if you get them printed in jumbo wallet size. We will be doing a bright, sunny Summertime layout and a fun 4th of July layout. You will need a long-reach hole punch or paper piercer, any shade of brown ink for distressing (applicator optional) and a white gel pen. I highly recommend the Uni-Ball by Signo (Uni-ball Gell Impact, White).
Please remember your basic class supplies:
12 inch trimmer
Scissors
Ruler
Tweezers
Wet and dry adhesive
Craft knife
Black pen

You may want to bring a circle cutter and circle punches. There will be a limited supply available in class. You will also need your craft mat and glue dots!

Ink-stained fingers = FUN!

Hello fellow bloggers and friends! The June techniques class was a success! Everyone seemed to enjoy it and learn some fun new things. As promised, here are some pictures of some of the things we learned in class. Please feel free to link us to your blog. Also, please leave us a comment about how we are doing and what you would like to see in the future. All comments are read and appreciated!

Remember, when distressing chipboard, you can ink it by applying the Distress Ink pad directly to the chipboard. (Don't forget to use your craft mat!) Then, for an antique look use the Tim Holtz Texture Hammer.

But don't forget to mist the chipboard with water first or you could pound it all day and not get the look you are after. You can also paint chipboard with acrylic paints then sand with a sanding block.

My favorite technique is to apply distress inks directly to the craft sheet. Mist it with water until you see the ink bead up and the color intensify. Then lay the tag or paper in the inks. You can pick it up directly or give it a slight turn then remove. Set it with a heat gun. If you like the effect, great! If not, place it back in the inks and heat set again. You can do this as many times as you like, just set with heat between each layer. If you get big blotches of ink, you can dab it with a paper towel to remove. Once you have the look you like, use an edge distresser to give the edges a torn, worn look. Then you can apply distress ink to the torn edges. I like to create small tears in the paper and curl the corners for a more distress look. Add a stamp, flowers or brads and you have a very unique embellishment to add to your layout or card.

Get ready to get dirty, ladies! For June we are going to be learning some of my absolute favorite techniques. Distress!!! Come prepared to ink, tear, sand, iron, sling paint, and hammer! Yes, I said hammer! We will learn to use some of Tim Holtz inks, tools and most popular techniques. This month’s layout will use Basic Grey’s Archaic papers, chipboard, Distress inks, paint, brads, a texture hammer and an edge distresser. You will need 3 4x6 photos. Please try to find photos with extra space around the subject so you can tear it. This layout is more “manly” than what we have done in the past so it’s perfect for Father’s Day or any guy in your life.

Please remember your basic class supplies:

12 inch trimmer, Scissors,Ruler, Tweezers, Wet and dry adhesive, Craft knife and Black pen

***You will also need a paper piercer or long-reach hole punch, edge distresser and old (or Dollar Store) toothbrush. If you have a craft mat, Tim Holtz Distress Inks (Walnut Stain and Faded Jeans preferred) please bring them also. There will be some available for use in class.***

My name is Traci Bird and I’ve been scrapbooking off and on for 8 years now. I started scrapbooking when my daughter was born. (She is now coming up on her 9th birthday). I love to scrapbook and make small books for other people. I also enjoy making all my cards. I opened Scrapbooks & Etc in 2006 and have enjoyed meeting all the creative people in, around and beyond Harrisburg. My customers are the best part of this business. They are very caring, giving and loyal scrapbookers, card makers and crafters.

My name is Amy! I have been scrapbooking for about 10 years but only got into making cards in the past year or so. I have had the privilege of teaching classes at Scrapbooks & Etc for about 2 years now. I am currently doing a monthly class using different techniques each month. I have always lived in NC. I have two very active boys so I have lots of opportunity to take a ton of pictures. Needless to say, I am way behind in my family scrapbooks! But I love learning and trying new techniques.
